Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that is characterized by redness of the face. It can also appear on the neck, scalp and chest, although these are less common. Rosacea is most often considered a cosmetic concern, rather than a medical condition, unless the eyes are also affected. Then, medications are prescribed. The exact cause of Rosacea is unknown, but we know that dilation of small blood vessels in the face is involved. It is unknown if Rosacea is genetic or caused by sun exposure, but both of these are suspected causes. Also suspect, are stomach ulcers and medications that widen blood vessels.
Symptoms are: redness of the skin, dryness, swelling, burning sensation, eye irritation and pimple-like blemishes.
Common triggers are: Alcohol, caffeine, foods high in histamine, spicy food, sunburn, cold wind, sudden changes in temperature, strenuous exercise and emotional stress.
Treatment involves a procedure similar to Laser Vein Therapy, which removes the redness by breaking up the blood vessels. The body can then, naturally absorb the tissue safely and effectively.
